Frequently Asked Questions

What is community access television?

Community Access Television is a service mandated by the State of Connecticut statutes and the Public Utility Regulatory Authority (PURA) for local Public, Educational, and Governmental (PEG) programs. In Wethersfield we have two channels. Wethersfield Community TV; Channel 14, which has a TV Studio located in the Wethersfield Community Center and is supported by volunteers from the community. Wethersfield Government and Education; Channel 16 is located in the Wethersfield Town Hall building and is supported by Wethersfield town employees.

How do I watch Community Access Television in Wethersfield?

Channels 14 & 16 can be viewed on Cox and Frontier cable. Channel 14 can also be viewed LIVE on our website. Click on "Find Us" on our website for further information.

Where do you get your programs?

Channel 14 has recurring local programs on various topics produced by town residents. We also include Wethersfield High School sports programs filmed by parents and high school volunteers. Channel 14 also airs programs of interest that are shared by other Community Access stations throughout the country. Both Wethersfield Channels air the Town Council, Board of Education and Planning and Zoning Committee meetings filmed at the Town Hall.

Does Channel 14 loan out equipment?

Channel 14 has high definition video cameras, tripods and microphones that trained users can borrow. Equipment is limited, so please send a request via the "Contact Us" tab on our website providing us plenty of notice.

What can volunteers do at Channel 14?

Volunteeers are a critical part of Channel 14. If you are interested in the TV business, either as a host of a show or behind the camera, then volunteering at Channel 14 is a great way to get started. You can learn to use cameras both in the studio and/or in the field. You can also learn to use graphic systems, sound mixers and editing software like Apple's Final Cut Pro. We have other volunteer positions that may be of interest too (planning shows, coordinating guests, answering emails, etc.) Please contact us via the "Contact Us" tab on our website for more information.

How do I get information added to Channel 14's “Scroller”?

The scroller is the list of community events that airs in between programs. If you have a community event that you would like to appear on Channel 14's scroller please submit it to us via the "Conact Us" tab on our website. Please include the name of the event, the name of the group, where the event is occurring, the hours of the event, and the name of a person and their contact information should people need further information.
